Why is consulting so trendy these days?

I see promotions online, where some people are selling their course to become a consultant and sometimes I ask myself if they really know what it means to be a consultant.

One guy’s ad copy (text in an ad) claims “Become a consultant even without any expertise” …

How could this work out if the term “consultant” is defined as a professional, offering his specific expertise to businesses (in the case of an external consultant) and to other departments (in case of an internal consultant)?

I am addicted to problems and many of my friends, colleagues, and co-workers do not understand why!

When working as a System Administration Consultant for a small IT Service Provider here in Switzerland I was told by my former colleagues to never mention problems to clients.

Ok, I took the advice and I didn’t, but I think, this is a naive idea, so let me explain, WHY!

I had made this experience also when I was a Management Support to General Management at a Private Bank. Most managers were not willing to listen to the problems I have seen and addressed.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our times.

Jeff Bezos started Amazon in 1994, was an angel investor of Google in 1998 and has built one of the biggest businesses on the internet since then.

Initially, he studied Physics but changed to Electronics where he graduated with excellence. He then became involved with the hedge-fund industry and focused on quant trading while the internet started to grow at very high rates at the time.

His decision to leave the financial industry, borrow 300’000 from his parents and start selling books online turned into a long run decision and leading to the hall of fame in the entrepreneur space.

Jack Ma founded Alibaba in 1999 with 19 people in his team and was one of the first Chinese persons who has seen the potential on the Internet early on and became a technological leader in the world.

Alibaba changed Chinas position in the world as a manufactural hub and is exploring new fields in finance through Alipay and in education.

Jack Ma came from a poor family, was a teacher and claims that he had been an average student while he got involved with leadership from his early days on.

His motivational speeches he gives around the globe, especially also focusing on emerging markets, the youth, the position of women and working in favor of the masses to build opportunities together with his futuristic outlook makes him a true leader.

The more I watch the content of Gary, the more I recognize his greatness!

I can just recommend to follow this crazy guy in and out and listen to the incredible amount of value he constantly shares as an example he wants to be for today’s kids and professionals!

Gary was an advisor to the Obama administration, is an early investor in Facebook, Twitter, Uber and many more tech startups, founder of Vayner Media, one of the most relevant media companies in NY and is more active in social media than anybody.

The amount of positivity he spreads on the internet is amazing!

A Personal Message – End 2017

I finished the year 2017 with a personal message, also providing an outlook for 2018.

I am recovering from one of the most difficult times in my personal life, as after getting sick in 2015 I had plenty of time during the last 2 years to research and overthink what I want to do during the time to come.
